How to Store Avocados

Store unripe avocados in a paper bag that has been folded down at room temperature. Make sure the avocados are not in direct sunlight. Check on the avocado frequently to make sure it hasn’t over ripened. Storing avocados incorrectly can lead to mushy overripe avocados.

To store a ripe avocado, place it in a sealed plastic bag or container inside the refrigerator. Do not keep ripe avocados at room temperature.

Cut or sliced avocados will brown quickly. To avoid discoloration, coat the avocado in lemon or lime juice and wrap the avocado in tight plastic wrap. Place the avocado in the refrigerator in an airtight container or plastic bag.

Frozen avocados will last up to six months in the freezer. First, clean and cut the avocado in half. Remove the pit and peel the avocado. Puree the avocado and sprinkle with lemon or lime juice. Finally, transfer the avocado to an airtight plastic container or freezer bag and place in the freezer.
